At some point we knew it would have to happen.
After losing three key players to callups within two days (Dan DeSalvo, Kale Kessy, Emerson Clark) the Oilers came out looking to establish themselves as not just a team of ECHL/AHL two way players.
They didn't succeed on this night.
Rapid City struck first on the power play. Brenden Walker fired a slap shot from between the circles just 21 seconds into the penalty to give the Rush a 1-0 lead with just 3:57 remaining in the first period.
Rapid City then closed the scoring for the game when, at 15:40 of the second period. Mark Cooper and Josh McDonald broke down the right side on a 2 on 1 break and Phillips couldn't stop the Cooper shot that found the net past the sprawling netminder.
This is the first time the Oilers have been shut out all season.
The Oilers next game is against the same Rush team at the BOK Center, this Friday night at 7:05pm.
